Matta Tremayne

Matta Tremayne was a human Jedi Master in service about 400 years before the Freedon Nadd Uprising, when Freddon Nadd was still alive and training as a Jedi. She was an expert swordsman from Corroth, and spent much of her time practicing lightsaber cadences to sharpen her skills. One day, while Matta was practicing on the outskirts of the Jedi planet Ossus, a young Jedi apprentice came to her. This Jedi was Freedon Nadd, and recently he had been denied being given the title of full-fledged Jedi Knight by other Jedi Masters.

As Freedon approached, Matta continued her cadences and ignored Nadd as if he wasn't even there. Frustrated that other Jedi Master, and now this one, had ignored him and not discussed with him his recent denial of becoming a Jedi Knight, Freddon Nadd began to walk away in anger. However, Master Tremayne would not let him go. Finally acknowledging him, Matta told Freedon that there were some things that could not be taught; there some things Jedi had to figure out for themselves.

For it was these things that Freedon Nadd had not looked inward, into himself, to understand. Matta told Freedon that he needed to look within himself to discover the answers to these mysteries. Freedon declared his great passion to be one of the Jedi Knights, but he just needed a little push in the right direction. Matta told Freedon that she could not help him, and this incensed him. Freedon followed with an outburst as his anger poured through him and declared that he would become the greatest Jedi that ever lived, with or without the Jedi Master's help.
